Peng Qinglin, a deliveryman from Hangzhou, bravely leaped from the 12-meter-high Xixing Bridge over Qiantang River on June 13, 2023, to rescue a suicidal woman who had jumped into the river. He suffered a compression fracture of the thoracic spine due to the forceful impact upon hitting the water. In 2023, the name Peng Qinglin became etched in the memory of Hangzhou residents.
跳桥救人之后，彭清林的生活发生了巨大的变化，媒体采访、各级领导和社会人士的慰问让他一时间有些恍惚，杭州好人、亚运会火炬手、浙江省见义勇为一等功等荣誉接踵而至，他的人生被重塑。
Following his daring rescue, Peng Qinglin’s life underwent tremendous changes. Media interviews, visits from authority figures of all levels, and all kinds of support engulfed him for a while. Honors such as Good Samaritans of Hangzhou, Asian Games Torchbearer, and the First-Class Merit for Taking Courageous Acts in Zhejiang Province were bestowed on him one after another, drastically altering his life.
出名之后的彭清林还有了40多万粉丝,有不少商家为此开价百万元找他直播带货，但他都拒绝了，因为他不想消费因救人带来的流量。现在的彭清林已回归到外卖员的岗位上,工作之余，他还经常接受媒体采访，参加各种公益活动，有时也作为颁奖嘉宾出席活动。同时，他还要学习国家开放大学工商管理专业的课程，生活变得越来越充实。
After his newly found fame, Peng Qinglin now has more than 400,000 followers on social media. Despite numerous businesses offering a million yuan for him to engage in livestreaming commerce, he declined as he did not want to use his fame in such a way. Peng Qinglin has now returned to his daily job as a deliveryman. In his spare time, he frequently engages in media interviews, participates in various charitable activities, and occasionally presents awards at events. He also enrolled for a Business Administration major at The Open University of China to further enrich his life.

救人后的当晚，因身上疼痛感加剧，彭清林无法入睡。2023年6月14日一早，他前往浙江中医药大学附属第二医院，医生确诊他是腰椎压缩性骨折伴肌肉损伤，需要住院7到10天进行治疗。
On the night after his selfless act, Peng Qinglin was unable to sleep due to increased pain across his body. On the morning of June 14, 2023, he visited Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The doctor determined that he had a lumbar vertebrae compression fracture with muscle damage, requiring him to be hospitalized for 7 to 10 days for treatment.
此后的一周，彭清林住的病房从早到晚都挤满了前来探望的人。各级领导、社会人士纷纷来看望慰问他，给他的奖金从3万元到10万元不等，他收到的奖励还包括一套房子、杭州户口。彭清林大致算了一下，来自个人和企业的各类捐款加起来就有100多万元，但这些钱他最后基本上没收。政府部门奖励的10多万元，他也转捐给了家乡的贫困学生。
In the following week, Peng Qinglin’s ward was filled with visitors from morning till night. Authority figures from various levels and the public at large came with their concerns and well-wishes, offering him financial assistance ranging from 30,000 to 100,000 yuan. He was also granted additional benefits, including a house and a Hangzhou household registration. Peng Qinglin roughly estimated that donations from individuals and corporations totaled more than 1 million yuan. However, he did not keep any of the money. In addition to the 100,000 yuan awarded by government departments, he donated it all to impoverished students in his hometown.
接踵而至的还有各类荣誉，杭州公安授予他一等治安荣誉奖章；杭州市见义勇为基金会授予他见义勇为积极分子荣誉称号；杭州市文明办授予他“杭州好人”荣誉称号；6月15日,他被家乡张家界市精神文明建设指导委员会授予“张家界好人”荣誉称号；6月25日，彭清林收到了杭州市颁发的二等功荣誉证书；11月20日，彭清林被浙江省政府记一等功。他的人生因一次救人壮举被不断重塑。
A multitude of honors were bestowed upon him, including the First-Class Public Security Honor Medal awarded by Hangzhou Public Security Bureau; the honorary title for active volunteers in heroic deeds awarded by the Hangzhou Justice and Courage Foundation; the honorary title of “Good Samaritans of Hangzhou” awarded by the Hangzhou Civilization Office; the honorary title of “Good Samaritans of Zhangjiajie” awarded by Zhangjiajie Municipal Steering Committee on Culture and Ethical Affairs on June 15th; On June 25th, Peng Qinglin received the second-class merit certificate awarded by Hangzhou City; On November 20th, Peng Qinglin was awarded first-class merit by the Zhejiang Provincial Government. His life has since never been same all because of his brave and selfless act of saving a life.

In mid-December, Peng had just delivered a takeout order when Jimu News reporters met him on the roadside under the Xixing Bridge. Until then, it had been six months since he saved the person. After receiving flowers and applause, finally, Peng Qinglin returned to his position as a deliveryman.
“现在是涨潮，水位要比我救人时要高一些。”彭清林向极目新闻记者介绍，钱塘江和大海连通，他救人时的水位要比涨潮时低很多，从桥上跳下去的落差更大一些。因为跳桥救人的壮举，2023年的杭州记住了彭清林,他与杭州西兴大桥也有了不解之缘。9月20日，杭州第19届亚运会火炬传递最后一站,彭清林作为火炬手再一次跑过他跳桥救人的西兴大桥。
“It's high tide now, and the water level is higher than when I saved the person,” Peng Qinglin told Jimu News reporters. The Qiantang River is connected to the sea, and the water level was much lower when he had to jump in, resulting in greater drop when he jumped off the bridge. Due to his heroic act in 2023, Peng Qinglin, who will now be forever connected to the Xixing Bridge in Hangzhou, holds a special place in the hearts Hangzhou residents. On September 20th, in the last stop of the torch relay at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, Peng Qinglin ran over the Xixing Bridge, the bridge where he had saved a life, once again as a torchbearer.
拒绝“百万酬金直播带货”

After his initial interviews with the press, his Tiktok followers increased by 20,000 and have since continued to soar. As of December 20th, Peng Qinglin's followers had exceeded 470,000. With such a wide audience, his account holds great potential in the live-streaming industry.
彭清林告诉极目新闻记者，他被媒体广泛报道后，不少企业向他抛来橄榄枝，高薪邀请他带货，有的企业甚至开出了上百万元的酬金，但都被他拒绝了，因为他不想消费因救人带来的流量。
Peng Qinglin told Jimu News reporters that after his story was widely reported on by the media, many companies extended olive branches to him, offering him a fat paychecks to promote goods online. Some companies even offered millions of yuan for the job, yet he turned it all down as he did not wish to misuse the online traffic garnered from his saving a life.
救人之初，彭清林也曾开过一场40分钟的直播，在收到1万多元的打赏后，他意识到有人利用他的热度进行打榜，他立马联系平台关停了礼物打赏功能。
Not long after the incident, Peng Qinglin held a 40-minute live stream. After receiving over 10,000 yuan in gifts, he realized that someone was using his fame to make the list. He immediately contacted the platform to shut down the gift giving function.
现如今，即使一个月不开播，坐拥40多万粉丝的彭清林在直播时，线上人数仍能轻松超过5000人，但他也只是和粉丝们聊天，分享近段时间的经历和感悟，有时也会给一些网友提供力所能及的帮助。
Now, despite not live streaming for a month, Peng Qinglin, who has over 400,000 fans, easily gathers an audience of over 5,000 viewers during live streams. However, he only chats with fans, sharing recent experiences and insights, and sometimes provides help to some viewers within his means.
彭清林热度不仅体现在网络。12月16日下午，彭清林在钱塘江边向记者介绍他救人的经过时，两名散步的杭州市民一眼就认出了他。他现在每天骑着电瓶车在杭州送外卖，也经常会被商家和接餐的顾客认出，有时还会被要求合影。有的商家还会跟他开玩笑：“网红来了。”对此，彭清林并不排斥，但他希望别人依然把他当成普通人去看待。
Peng Qinglin's popularity is not only reflected on the internet. On the afternoon of December 16th, two residents in Hangzhou who were walking by recognized Peng Qinglin at a glance when he was introducing his rescue story to reporters by the Qiantang River. He currently still rides his electric scooter as a delivery guy in Hangzhou every day, and is often recognized by shop owners and customers when he delivers food. At times, people even ask to take pictures with him. Some shop owners say jokingly: “The internet celebrity is here.” While Peng Qinglin is not against these remarks, he still hopes others treat him as an ordinary person.
今年31岁的彭清林出生于湖南张家界桑植县一个乡村，十几岁就跟着父亲出门打工。他当过木工、调色工等，辗转多年后来到杭州做了一名外卖小哥。彭清林的一个大拇指上,有一道深深的疤痕，那是他早年做木工时意外割伤手指留下的。
Peng Qinglin, 31-years, was born in Sangzhi, Zhangjiajie, Hunan province. He followed his father working odd jobs in his teens. He once worked as a carpenter, a paint mixer, etc and after many years of hard work, he moved to Hangzhou to work as a deliveryman. Peng has a deep scar on his thumb, which he accidentally acquired during his earlier years as a carpenter.
从默默工作的外卖小哥到坐拥47万粉丝的网络名人，彭清林的2023年经历了人生重大的转折。2024年即将到来，父亲对他有所期待，他最大的心愿就是儿子能早日找到中意的对象结婚。“但我也尊重孩子的选择。”他说。
From a regular deliveryman to an online sensation with 470,000 fans, Peng Qinglin has life took a major turn in 2023. As 2024 approaches, his father hopes he will find a suitable partner soon. “I respect his decision though”, he said.

After gaining online fame, Peng Qinglin was promoted by the company to the rank of team leader, in charge of a dozen deliverymen. Now he not only fulfills his daily task of delivering orders, but also undertakes certain management tasks. Talking about 2023, Peng Qinglin considers himself lucky because he chose to save a life at a critical moment, and then went on to be noticed by everyone in the city of Hangzhou. After that, he recieved various opportunities and honors. He said “warmth” would be his annual word for 2023. He too had once been saved when he was young, so his jumping off the bridge to save another person was simply passing on the warmth. Likewise, the city of Hangzhou and its citizens sent warmth back to him.
